Hideki Yamaya, vihuela


Boston-based soprano Camila Parias and MM artistic director Hideki Yamaya on vihuela perform villancicos, romances, and sonetos of 16th-century Spain by Luys Milan, Luys de Narbaez, Alonso Mudarra, and Miguel de Fuenllana. A native of Colombia, Ms. Parias is a renowned specialist of Renaissance and Baroque repertoire of Spain and Latin America. This will be her Oregon debut.

Musica Maestrale: Hideki Yamaya plays Lute and Cittern from Elizabethan England

Lute and Cittern in Elizabethan England

Hideki Yamaya, Renaissance lute and cittern


Lutenist Hideki Yamaya will perform a concert of music from the late 16th~early 17th-century England on Renaissance lute and cittern, a rarely heard instrument: wire-strung, played with a plectrum, and with a very unusual tuning. The program will feature music by John Dowland and Anthony Holborne, as well as arrangements of popular music from the period.

Musica Maestrale Returns to Portland After 2-year Hiatus with a solo Spanish Baroque Guitar Program

 Musica Maestrale is back after over 2 years of hiatus in a solo house concert featuring Hideki Yamaya on vihuela and baroque guitar. The program will walk through the development of the fantasía form in the 16th-century, as well as adaptation of dances, both courtly and popular, to the guitar throughout the Renaissance and Baroque eras. Pieces by Milán, Narváez, Mudarra, and de Murcia will be interspersed with explanations of the instruments, composers, and the music.
