The Bach Cantata Choir of Portland will give its annual free Lenten concert of music at 2 pm this Sunday at the Rose City Park Presbyterian Church (1907 NE 45th Avenue, Portland). Under conductor Ralph Nelson, the 55-member choir will sing J.S. Bach’s Cantata No. 8 Liebster Gott, wenn werd ich sterben? and Cantata No. 111 Was mein Gott will, das g’scheh allzeit. Shorter works by Buxtehude, Boyce, Palestrina and Berger are also included in the program. Featured soloists are soprano Nan Haemer, mezzo-soprano Irene Weldon, tenor Byron Wright, and bass-baritone Jacob Herbert. A chamber orchestra of 15 instrumentalists will accompany. Although the concert is free, donations are gratefully accepted.
