The great conductor Helmuth Rilling has passed. Especially renown for his work on Bach's music, Rilling co-founded the Oregon Bach Festival. As a member of the Portland Symphonic Choir, I got to sing with him when he led the Oregon Symphony in a performance of Haydn's "The Creation." That memorable performance featured Thomas Quasthoff.
