On
April 11, 1941, Austrian-born composer Arnold Schönberg became an
American citizen and officially changed the spelling of his last name to
Schoenberg. He would remain in the United States until his death in
1951. Some of his most important compositions, including the Piano
Concerto, the Violin Concerto, and the Fourth String Quartet, were
composed during his American years.
