On April 29, 1969, Duke Ellington was invited to the White House to
receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom on his 70th birthday. At the
event, U.S. President Richard Nixon played "Happy Birthday" on the piano
accompanied by the Duke Ellington Orchestra.
